Fr. Albert has been a monk of St. Benedict's Abbey since 1954. He has served in a variety of capacities in the monastery, at St. Benedict's and Benedictine College, and around the Archdiocese. Br. Christopher Start
Br. Christopher has returned to his pre-monastic roots, working as a teacher. He currently teaches Religion & Science at the St. Benedict Catholic School in Atchison. See more about Br. Christopher here.
Fr. Denis Meade
Fr. Denis Meade recently celebrated 65 years of monastic life. He spent the majority of his active ministry working as a professor of theology at St. Benedict's and Benedictine College, humorously styling himself as a "teacher of basic theology to under-motivated freshman." Fr. Denis continues to be active serving as chaplain for the Dooley Center at Mount St. Scholastica Monastery and the abbey's archivist. You can read more about Fr. Denis here.
Abbot James Albers
Abbot James serves as the spiritual father and the leader for the monastic community. Elected in 2013 Abbot James strives to follow St. Benedict's exhortation to "run with the light of life." Aside from his Abbatial duties, Abbot James also assists Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann distributing the sacrament of confirmation around the Archdiocese. Learn more about Abbot James here.
Fr. Jay Kythe
Fr. Jay comes to the Abbey with 14 years of priestly experience. He serves as Retreat Master, assisting those that visit the abbey on their spiritual journey, and is the Associate Chaplain at Benedictine College, serving as a spiritual father and providing the students with the sacraments and guidance. Prior Jeremy Heppler
Fr. Jeremy serves as prior for the monastic community, handling much of the day-to-day operation of the abbey. He is also the chaplain for Maur Hill-Mount Academy, the Abbey's high school apostolate. Learn more about Fr. Jeremy here.
Br. Joseph Ryan
Br. Joseph works as the "mail-monk" for Benedictine College and the monastery and is the groundskeeper for the abbey, marshaling the effort of caring for the abbey grounds. You can learn more about Br. Joe in the interactive video above.
Br. Karel Soukup
Br. Karel joined the monastery in 2014, he currently assists Br. Leven as the Asst. Vocations Director, assists Br. Joseph as the Asst. Groundskeeper, and uses his outstanding artistic talents to augment the liturgical life of the monastery. Read more about Br. Karel here.
Br. Leven Harton
Br. Leven serves the monastic community as subprior and as vocations director. He is also the founder and head cook of the Benedict's Brittle enterprise, cooking up tasty treats each holiday season.
Br. Luke Turner
Br. Luke joined St. Benedict's Abbey in 2012 and professed solemn vows, making his life-long commitment to St. Benedict's Abbey on December 12, 2015. Fr. Marion Charboneau
Fr. Marion joined the Abbey in 1998. He has recently completed his doctoral studies at Kansas State University and works as a professor or history at Benedictine College. He also assists at parishes throughout the Archdiocese, celebrating Masses and offering the sacraments whenever he is called upon. Learn more about Fr. Marion here.
Fr. Meinrad serves in a variety of capacities in and out of the monastery: he is the oblate director, assisting oblates in their search for Christ; he serves as novice master, forming the newest members of the monastic community; he teaches theology at Benedictine College; and much more.
Fr. Simon is the most recently ordained member of St. Benedict's Abbey. He serves as the junior master, leading the most recently professed monks. He is also the chaplain at Benedictine College, leading the students on their faith journey. Learn more about Fr. Simon here.
Br. Timothy McMillan
Br. Timothy serves the monastic community as sacristan, charged with the preparation for the abbey's many liturgies. He is currently furthering his education in preparation to go to seminary.
