The words of the prophet Isaiah still resonate today: “I have called you by name; you are mine” (Isaiah 43:1). In every generation, God calls men to seek Him in the rhythm of prayer, work, and community life—pillars of the Benedictine way. The call to become a monk is an invitation to stability, silence, humility, and a life wholly centered on Christ. As adult Catholics, we are entrusted with the sacred duty of helping young men listen for this quiet but persistent call.
Called By Name, developed and promoted by the Serra Club and endorsed by the U.S. Bishops’ Committee for Vocations, is a powerful tool for encouraging men 18 years and older to discern their vocation. Now more than ever, the Church needs the witness of Benedictine monks—men rooted in tradition, living in community, and interceding for the world from the cloister. Let us help them hear the call.
